Foreign students who come to China to study or exchange must apply for visas through Chinese embassies or consulates abroad. The types of visas are as follows:
X1 PERSONNEL WHO HAVE LEARNED IN CHINA (MORE THAN 180 DAYS)
X2 personnel studying for a short period of time (no more than 180 days) in China
F Persons engaged in exchanges, visits, inspections and other activities in China
L PERSONNEL TRAVELing IN CHINA OR PARTICIPATING IN THE SUMMER (WINTER) CAMP
For applicants who come to study in China, please be sure to apply for a study visa (X visa) to study in China. Among them, X1 visa is a long-term convertible visa, which must be converted into a residence permit within 30 days of entry; X2 visa is a short-term non-convertible visa. Students with this visa can only travel to and from China once and can stay in China for up to 180 days. Therefore, if you study in China for more than 180 days, you need to apply for an X1 visa (residence permit); if it does not exceed 180 days, you need to apply for an X2 visa.
When applying for a student visa (X visa), you need to prepare the following materials:
(1) Passport: 1 copy of the original passport with a blank visa page valid for more than 6 months and a copy of the passport photo page.
(2) Visa application form and photos: 1 Visa Application Form of the People's Republic of China and 1 recent, front, color (light background), bareheaded and passport photos pasted on the application form.
(3) Certificate of legal stay or residence (applicable to those who are not applying for a visa in the country of nationality): If you do not apply for a visa in the country of nationality, you need to provide a valid certificate of legal stay, residence, work or study in the country where you are located or an original and photocopy of a valid visa.
(4) Original Chinese passport or original Chinese visa (applicable to those who have had Chinese nationality and later become a foreign nationality): If you are applying for a Chinese visa for the first time, you must provide the original Chinese passport and a copy of the passport photo information page; if you have obtained a Chinese visa and apply for a visa with a new foreign passport, you must provide the photo page of the original foreign passport and a copy of the Chinese visa obtained (if the name recorded in the new passport does not match the original passport, you must also provide the official proof of the name change of name).
